I liked the movie, but not the way it was put together. I didn't think the stories had anything to do with each other other than the guy who sold the other guy the gun (and the underlying stuff about family and parents' neglecting to pay attention to their children), so I don't understand why they had to alternate.
I think it would have been better if the first half was one story/country, and the second half was of the other (like in Full Metal Jacket).
That, or have it alternate more frequently. It stayed on one for so long that I'd be so focused on it, and felt like someone switched the channel on me when it skipped over to the other one. It was also hard to remember exactly what had happened since the other story when it switched back, since it'd been so long. Maybe it's just me and my short attention span, but meh.
I really, really loved The Illusionist, but I think The Prestige is even cooler. I watched it all the way through again after finishing it the first time, and I could probably go a third time and still enjoy it thoroughly.
I loved all the tricks, the secrets, the twists and turns. It's by the same guys who did Memento; no wonder the back and forth and time sequencing is so well placed.
Sooooo good.
We saw the trailer for this a long time ago, when we first saw trailers for the Science of Sleep. July? August? I don't remember hearing about it when it was in the theaters, but I figured the DVD would be out by now. It just came out the week I remembered it too – what timing!
Somehow, I retained all the details from the trailer, and figured out all the main parts of the movie from it. I still really liked it though – the story, the characters, their lines, the cinematography. Beautifully done. Fucked up, but beautiful.
I'm a fan of M. Night Shyamalan's work, but I didn't think I'd like Lady in the Water based on what I saw in the trailers. But it turns out it's one of those trailers that suck because if it really showed you what the movie was about, it'd spoil it.
From what I remember of the trailers when the movie first came out, I thought it was going to be about a woman lady who came out of the water to warn the humans about a race, her race of underwater people who wanted to take over land and kill off all humans so they could have it to themselves. And some other stuff I don't remember, but I was wrong. Very wrong.
We just finished watching it, and I'm quite surprised at how much I didn't hate it. In fact, I really liked it, especially the concept of a bedtime story being real; you just have to believe in it. And of course, the part in the middle where the critic guy who just moved into 13-B was alone with the not-dog wolf monster bad guy thing, explaining the plot and what would happen – that was very clever and funny for a not-comedy movie.
I can't believe I haven't seen Reservoir Dogs before. I thought it was awesome. I think Tarantino is awesome. We watched this 2 or 3 weeks ago, when I was being lazy and stopped noting the movies I watched, and consequently forgot what happened at the very end. Did everyone die? I do remember that one of my favorite parts though was when they were given their names, and Mr. Pink asked why he was Pink.
How many times did this story get made into a movie? There were 3 different ones in a row in the Recent Releases section at Blockbuster when we went in the other day, and then there was this one, which I for some reason added to our Netflix queue. The trailer was definitely better than the movie. I just couldn't get into it. If your child was trying to kill your wife, a wife you loved very much, would you tell her the truth that it's not really her child?
After the first few scenes, I was starting to lose interest because I thought it was going to be another dumb B horror movie about a stupid teenager who meets with an older man from the internetz, and etc. etc. But no, it was pretty much the exact opposite of what I expected; the teen girl was the dangerous one. In a crazy crazy psycho way. Wow.
The rest of this will contain spoiler-ish comments, so skip if you're interested in seeing the movie.
I knew she was going to cut off his wee-wee so he wouldn't be able to "hurt" any more girls, but I didn't think it was actually going to be done. I also hoped it was going to end differently, because I knew that after he killed himself, she wouldn't clean up all the evidence as promised.
I heard someone talking about this on the bus last night. We watched it a few weeks ago, but I forgot to blog about it. I was pretty tired when we watched it, but I still figured it out before the movie explained it. I thought it was really captivativing and interesting though. Despite all the killing and gun-pointing, it it was quite heart-warming too.
I loved the characters in The World According the GARP. I love when a movie captivates me because of its characters and story, when it doesn't need fancy special effects (even though I like those movies too).
Derailed. J figured out too early what the movie was about, so I was just waiting for the movie to get to that part. It was too easy, but made for a good time filler last night. Highlight the text below to read, contains spoilers if you haven't already seen the movie but want to.
| I thought it was going to end after the motel room when he picked up his briefcase. I'm glad it went on after that, and that the detective knew about the knife and who it belonged to. When Winston died, I couldn't help but think that of course the Black guy is the first to die. |
V for Vendetta looked good. Well.. I liked the begining and the end. I should watch it again when I'm not falling asleep.
